The Forest Oil Region Contest of What’s So Cool About Manufacturing (WSCM) for Venango, Warren, Forest, and Clarion counties has wrapped up. The virtual Awards Event premiered on YouTube on April 28 and the winners are:
- Outstanding Overall Program: Oil City Area Middle School
- Outstanding Career Pathway: Christian Life Academy
- Outstanding Creativity: Eisenhower Middle School
- Outstanding Cool: Titusville Middle School
- Outstanding Marketing: Cranberry Jr/Sr High School
- Viewers’ Choice: Oil City Area Middle School
Oil City Area Middle School, as the Outstanding Overall Program winner, will represent the Forest Oil Region Contest at the statewide competition which will occur as a virtual event in June.
NWIRC was again the coordinator for the program, along with numerous community partners and sponsors. WSCM is a student video contest with the goal to create awareness within the schools and the community about cool manufacturing careers through the eyes of 7th and 8th grade students.
The team, guided by their Teacher Coach, conducted research, did filming at the company, and edited their video for final submission. Eight schools and eight manufacturing companies in Venango, Warren, Forest, and Clarion counties participated in the first year of the program for this region.
The videos for all the teams are still available for viewing at www.WhatsSoCool.org (look for Forest Oil Region contest). A recording of the virtual awards event can be viewed at: youtu.be/rMIIpMr8jpA.
