Local Teachers Embrace VenangoREADY

The Chamber has been working with schools and businesses to launch VenangoREADY, a program focused on helping students prepare for work readiness.

VenangoREADY launched May 12 at two virtual sessions with more than 100 local teachers. In early June, the Chamber also had the opportunity to participate in virtual in-service teacher seminars at the Titusville Area School District and two Teacher in the Workplace webinars.

Jesse Maine, director of federal programs, curriculum, and learning for the Titusville Area School District, facilitated the in-service sessions, offering the opportunity for teachers to ask questions and give insights.

Chamber President/CEO Susan Williams provided information about VenangoREADY and its many benefits, including how teachers can help better prepare students and create positive classroom cultures.

“These sessions were strategically planned for the beginning of the summer break,” said Jesse. “It encouraged teachers to begin thinking about where the schools are headed in regard to preparedness for business, so we can build in activities when students return in the fall.”

Jesse estimated that two thirds of the Titusville area teachers have been introduced to the program. Titusville, along with all Venango County districts, are working toward incorporating the language and attributes into their classroom.

“Our next step is to add the support of local businesses. The six attributes of VenangoREADY are consistent with what we’ve heard from businesses for over a decade,” Susan adds. “As students possess the skills of good communication, strong work ethic, team work, tactfulness/manners, critical thinking/problem solving and understanding of supervision, their value as an employee improves greatly.”

The Chamber invites those businesses who agree with this to support VenangoREADY. If you are interested contact Susan Williams at swilliams@venangochamber.org or at 814-676-8521.
