Tech Tip: The Growth of Audio

Are you finding yourself getting busier recently, especially as we get into summer and COVID restrictions lift? You may normally take some time to sit down and read a good book, watch a segment on the news channel, or enjoy a few YouTube videos, but making time for these things can become harder as our lives get busier.

That’s where audio content comes into play (literally). There are several ways you can still enjoy news, stories, or inspirational content, by just putting in some earphones or plugging your phone into your car’s audio jack (or using Bluetooth) including:

• Audio books: You’re probably familiar with Audible, but did you know you also have access to audiobooks if you have a library card through the Oil Region Library Association? Just sign into the app Libby to access hundreds of audio books for free.

• Podcasts: Whether you’re into self help, business, true crime, or history, there is a podcast out there for you. Listen to them on iTunes or Spotify, or one of the many other programs available for podcasts.

• TED Talks: Although TED Talks show video, most of them don’t need to be watched. Just pull it up on YouTube or the TED website and listen as you do another task.

• News: Whether it’s on your Sirius Radio or through a news website or app, you can save time by listening to your news rather than watching it. Just search the site of your favorite station to see if they have those options available.

You might not always have the time to read a book or watch TV, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the same content while you’re on your morning commute, taking a walk during your lunch break, or getting some chores done at home.
