Local Manufacturers Partner with Venango Technology Center

Close to a dozen local manufacturers got together to address workforce issues in our region. They created a list of skills that would be beneficial for employees working in any of their businesses. They then took that list to the Venango Technology Center, inquiring how to best educate students in these skills. In response to this request, VTC launched the Certified Production Technician program to help equip students for career pathways in advanced manufacturing. The program will consist of both online learning and hands-on training at VTC. Chamber members, Webco Industries and Electralloy, spoke to students at the launch, sharing opportunities at each of their companies. Bob Moore, Cooperative Education Coordinator, helped to organize and launch this program. VTC works closely with local businesses in areas such as adult/incumbent worker training like the upcoming Basic Machine Certification Program and also with co-op students. There are over 30 students currently out working on co-op. Bob said, “If VTC is able to help and it makes sense with our programs, we’re willing to discuss more ways to collaborate with local employers.”
