So Much to Do at 2009 Cranberry Festival


The 2009 Cranberry Festival will be held September 19, 2009 at Morrison Park in Seneca, PA.

Many pre-festival events include the D & R Glass Golf Skills Competition held at the Cranberry Driving Range on Route 322 on Sunday, September 13th from 2-4PM. The cost is $5 per person and each participant receives a free t-shirt and goodie bag, while supplies last. Juniors register at 2PM, Women at 2:30PM, and Men at 3:15PM.

Tuesday, September 15th will feature the Fisher & Father, Inc. Zero Turn Obstacle Course Tractor Race at their location on Route 257 in Cranberry. $2 entry fee per try. Be the fastest thru the obstacle course to win prizes provided by Fisher & Father. Proceeds will benefit the free children’s activities at the festival. The Cranberry Mall will also host an event on Tuesday, titled “Jungle Terry’s Traveling Zoo at the Cranberry Mall”. Walk together as a family for your chance to win free pizza and movie passes, and enjoy an interactive presentation by Jungle Terry. Visit safari animals like snakes, turtles, alligators and more.

The Spaghetti Dinner Festival Fundraiser will be held at the Christian Life Academy Cafeteria from 5pm – 7pm on Wednesday, September 16th. Tickets will be available at the door and cost $6.50 for adults; $3.00 for children ages 4-9; and children 3 and under are free. After enjoying a spaghetti dinner, please stay to enjoy the Festival King/Queen Talent and Crowning Ceremony beginning at 7pm. Wednesday is also the opening day for the 2009 Cranberry Festival Art Show and Exhibit. This event will be held on Wednesday & Thursday from 5pm-8:30 PM and on Friday from 2-8:30PM.

Thursday will feature “Venango’s Got Talent” hosted by the Cranberry Mall, Center Court area, beginning at 5PM. Pre-registration is required for all participants. Registration forms are available at the Cranberry Mall customer service center or www.cranberry-pa.org.

Friday, September 18th, the Edward Jones Ice Cream Social will be held from 6–8:30PM at the Christian Life Academy Gymnasium. The cost is 50 cents per item. Choose from a variety of ice creams and delicious toppings. While enjoying your ice cream, you can browse through the beautiful artwork created by local artists.

It is not too late to build a scarecrow for the “Scarecrow Contest”. Scarecrows must be pre-registered by September 15th. Registration forms are available at the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce or CS Technologies Plus or www.cranberry-pa.org. The contest is free and open to any individual, family, business, or non-profit. Scarecrows will be built on Friday, September 18th from noon until 6PM. Scarecrows will then be judged and

On festival day, Saturday, September 19th, Christian Life Academy will host a Country Breakfast Buffet from 8 – 11am at the Christian Life Academy Cafeteria. The breakfast feature delicious breakfast items such as biscuits and gravy, pancakes, sausage, eggs, and much more.

The Seneca VFD will host the 5K Walk/Race on festival day beginning at 9AM at the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department prior to the festival.

Children’s games and events will begin at 10AM and conclude at 6PM in Morrison Park in Seneca, at no charge to the children. Children will find all free and fun activities in the Kid’s Corner including bouncy inflatables, spin art, bean bag toss, face and hair painting, plinko, and a duck pond. Many other free activities are planned for kids of all ages. A “Redneck Backwoods Olympic” competition, Cranberry’s version of a Fear Factor competition for adults and children, and other activities including clowns, a Chinese Auction, numerous demonstrating artists, and much more will be taking place throughout the day.

From 10AM until 7PM, craft vendors will display their wares, food vendors will be offering the chance to sample their cuisine at family friendly prices, and the Car & Motorcycle Cruise-In will offer car enthusiasts the chance to see some real unique and one-of-a-kind vehicles.

The day’s entertainment will include a variety of performers on the Main Stage beginning at 10AM with Glipse of Glory, HOLeY Jeans at 10:30AM, Mostly Brass at 11:30AM, Allegheny Sounds with Sweet Adelines International at 1PM, Dempseytown Ramblers at 2PM, and the Allegheny String Band at 4:30PM.

Spotted Draft Horse Wagon Rides will begin at noon, provided by Ken & Chris Kaber. The rides will be free to the public, but donations will be accepted.

The festivities at Morrison Park will end at 7PM, but the events at the Cranberry Mall will only be beginning. The winners and runners-up of “Venango’s Got Talent” will be performing near the East Entrance from 6-8PM. The Touch-A-Truck event will be from 7-9PM, and will feature large trucks, unique cars, and heavy equipment for kids to explore.

A spectacular fireworks display by Dr. Scott Cartwright will close the festival at 9pm at the Cranberry Mall. Fireworks will be able to be viewed from the mall and the surrounding areas. Make sure you get their early to get a good parking space and for the great sales, food and prizes!
