R.N. Goss Gas Products is pleased to announce that Monika Goss has joined the company as the new Purchasing and Inventory Manager. She is the fourth generation to work in the family business, which was started by her great-grandfather, R.N. Goss, in 1934.
Her role at the company involves anticipating and responding to customer needs and the coordination of many aspects of the business including sales, operations, and delivery. Primarily, she works directly with the sales team and suppliers to ensure inventory is optimized to meet market demand.
Goss says: “I always knew I wanted to join the family business and play a bigger role in the company. I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to be a part of the next chapter for Goss Gas. Not many businesses have this level of succession and it’s exciting to look at the business with fresh eyes and to create opportunities for improvement along the way.”
Starting from a young age, she has worked part time for the family business and is eager to put her biomedical engineering background to use in new ways adding: “I have a very analytical approach to problem solving. I’ve always loved working with numbers and a big part of this job is using data to make informed decisions.”
Goss graduated from Oil City High School in 2010 and Case Western Reserve University in 2015 with a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. She worked in the neural engineering field for several years before returning to the area with her husband this past spring.
“My dad never pushed me to join the family business. He has always been supportive of me exploring other opportunities and gaining outside experience before coming back.”
Dave Goss, who joined the business in 1974 and has been president since 1989, says: “Monika is committed to improving our focus on customer needs and all of our internal processes. She is learning every facet of the operation and finding ways to make meaningful contributions. I’m absolutely delighted to have someone as conscientious as she is in such a key position. The future looks bright.”
Jeff Rivers, General Manager, said: “I am very excited to have Monika on board as our Purchasing/Inventory manager. She brings a high level of energy and a new set of ideas to our organization. She is committed to the success of the company and to our employees. Since Monika has arrived, I feel like I have a new partner in this business, someone with the same values and determination to succeed.”
As part of her training, Goss interacts with every department and has worked in various capacities company-wide to get an overall sense of how the organization interacts. “For me, it’s about experiencing every role within the company to understand and improve our processes, customer service, and efficiency, “ she said.
Goss wants to ensure the high level of customer service be maintained explaining that, “one major advantage we have is that we are large enough to have the resources to service our customer needs, but small enough to focus on personalized service.
Goss Gas Products is a local, independent distributor of industrial gases and welding supplies serving residential and commercial customers throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. Goss Gas is part of a family of local brands including RenovEx and Provanta and is located in Reno, PA. Goss Gas will mark its 85th year in business in 2019.
