Business Tip of the Month: Connecting Within Industry

Connecting within your industry can be one of the most valuable things you can do for your business or organization, and for your own professional growth. Many of the challenges that we face in business are universal but understanding the specific nuances and opportunities within your field will give you a great advantage.

One popular belief is that the key to becoming an expert is to devote at least 10,000 hours to the study and practice of a subject. You can invest your time or you can leverage your connections and the cumulative investment of your network to accelerate your journey. It is important to contribute as well, and it is often in sharing what you’ve learned that you will benefit the most.

Recently Heather Hondel, Entrepreneurship Program Manager for the Venango eAcademy, met with Katie Parr, who fills the same role with the eAcademy at LindenPointe. This collaboration has been beneficial as Heather navigates her role with the program. “Katie and I have met both in person and over the phone and each time has left me inspired and excited to implement new activities and lessons with my students. I look forward to continuing to share our knowledge and experiences as the program progresses,” Heather said.

Susan Williams, Chamber President shares that a quick call or email to a peer chamber leader can often save hours of work. Susan reports: “Many times the details are different, but having the perspective of others in my industry can help guide me in what to expect, whether trying to resolve an issue or planning something new.”

How will you connect with others in your industry in 2023?
