Provanta Celebrates 90 Years as Goss Marks 50

Dave Goss with his daughter, Monika, the fourth generation to be involved in the family business.

September marks 50 official full-time years in the family business for Dave Goss. Dave grew up working around the family business, which in the early years, was all under the Goss Gas umbrella.

He started by painting gas cylinders and propane bulk tanks, and later worked as a delivery driver and installation technician. He worked through high school and college whenever possible, and then shortly after graduating from Miami University in 1974, his father, second generation owner Norman Grant Goss, needed help and Dave returned as a full-time employee.

Dave became president and owner after his father’s death in 1989, and under his tenure, the company grew and expanded into three separate divisions: Goss Gas, focusing on welding supplies and industrial gases, RenovEx, a grill cylinder exchange business that later partnered with Blue Rhino, and Provanta, the bulk propane and home heating division.

Dave continues to own and operate Provanta, which is celebrating 90 years in business this year, and serves customers in northcentral and northwestern Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio. RN Goss Gas products, the company that would later evolve into Goss Gas, Provanta, and RenovEx, was founded in 1934 in Oil City by Robert Norman Goss.

Congratulations on 50 years Dave!
