Spring finally arrived in Venango County and with it came green grass, flowers, and newborn kittens.  This awaited, temporal season may be “spring” to you, but for the Venango County Humane Society, it is “Kitten Season.”

It is a season that is anticipated every year. Currently, the VCHS has 40 kittens to foster and/or adopt.  It is a tremendous task to keep our most vulnerable residents healthy and vibrant, but these young ones are fortunately under the watchful eye of their kennel attendant, Caitlyn Brady.

Caitlyn is from Franklin and has been working at the Venango County Humane Society since November.  Her aspiration is to be a veterinarian and she feels this position is giving her the valuable experience she needs before entering into that program.

When asked what she observed at the shelter that makes it special, she said: “At this shelter, the care and needs of the animals come first.”

You can meet Caitlyn and the other shelter attendants by visiting the Venango County Humane Society.  Training for foster parent and mentor programs is underway. Please consider participating in this rewarding program.

To support our kittens, a Victorian Kit-Tea Shower will be held on June 23, from 1-3 p.m., at the Great Room of the Transit Building in Oil City.  Admission is $10 for adults and children 10 and up and $5 for ages 9 and younger. This cost will pay for up to three vaccinations per kitten.  You may also attend by bringing items from our “Wish List.”  Items needed are Purina Kitten Chow, KY jelly, and fleece blankets.  A complete list can be found on an insert in this month’s newsletter, and on the Venango County Humane Society Fan Club Facebook page.
