One of the most important aspects of engaging volunteers is thanking them. With so many demands on our time these days, taking time to give back in the community can be an afterthought.

The members of the Fertigs Community Center recently held their Annual Appreciation Dinner. This dinner is put on by the board members for everyone who has volunteered at, donated to, or supported the Community Center over the past year as their way to say “thank you.” While this dinner is to show appreciation, the board members also planned the dinner to be around Christmas and special for the children in attendance, who all received gifts.

Finding ways to combine celebrations is a great way to build community, encourage conversations, and celebrate those who volunteer. The Fertigs Community Center sets a great example for encouraging community members to engage in the future.
