The Oil City 150th Anniversary Committee is planning the city’s official “birthday party,” set for April 11. The committee, chaired by Bill and Robin Moon, has a program of speakers and music set for the event in Justus Park. There will be performances by OCHS students, speeches from local dignitaries and community members, and an unveiling of the items found in the time capsule buried in 1971.
The event in the park will be followed by a celebration at the Venango Museum, which is celebrating a birthday as well and will open for the season that day.
Many organizations have also planned events during the year to celebrate. The Mayor will host “Munchies with the Mayor” in May, the Rhododendron Garden in Hasson Park will be dedicated in June, and a new time capsule will be buried in October.
