We’ve talked quite a bit about giving great customer service, but customers aren’t the only people you should be treating well. Your team is just as important! How can we expect employees to give great service, if they are not receiving it themselves?
Three steps to giving great service include: find out what the customer wants, get it for them (accurately, politely and enthusiastically), then go the extra mile.
These steps apply to staff, too:
- Do your best to understand what employees need by engaging them one-on-one.
- Be polite and treat them well—the service we give to staff sets the bar for service they give customers. You can’t always give staff (and customers) what they want, but you can control the attitude you give towards them.
- Do little things to go the extra mile with staff—write them a note, empty their trash bin, ask for their input, ask how their weekend went, or simply say thank you.
