Like most long standing businesses in Venango County, Wanango Country Club has seen many changes over the past two decades.  Historically a private golf club, the venture into a public-private model has brought opportunity along with challenges.  Recently, under new ownership, the club is sporting a new energy and staff, excited to invite you to see the Club at its best.

Manager Mark London proudly remarks: “The golf course is back to its original quality condition. It is the best it has ever been!”

Wanango continues to offer the option of membership, which provides a number of exclusive benefits, including reserved tee times and member gatherings.  A newly remodeled pool is anticipated to be available for members in the future. Mark comments: “Young families are so busy these days and we want to offer a place where they can bring the kids and enjoy a day of recreation and great food, easily accessible to both the Franklin and Oil City communities.”

Wanango has long been a choice location for special events, including weddings and private parties, which are overseen by Jess and Alexa. Renovations throughout the facility include remodeled restrooms and locker rooms, with plans for dining room and deck improvements.

Among the newest on staff are chefs Eric and Kate Krupitzer. Eric, who began his career 22 years ago at Wanango, is happy to be back and overseeing the kitchen.

“We are willing to tailor our meals to special requests, but have developed a menu that seems to be very appealing to customers,” he said. “Along with typical grill room faire such as burgers, we are now offering more variety in our daily menu.”

Tuesdays are ladies days on the golf course and provide an opportunity to customize the lunch with souffles and delicious desserts. While Eric is working from decades of experience, Kate, new to the business, is currently studying the art of cooking and Wanango customers are fortunate to be among the first to try her creations, which often appear as works of art. The two are often accompanied by Eric’s daughter, Alexa (pictured at left).

“The crest of Wanango says ‘familia omnia’ or ‘family is everything’,” Eric said. “This is shown both behind the scenes and to our customers.”

The Venango Chamber will once again hold the annual Golf Scramble at Wanango, on June 26, which has moved to a new month this year.

Golf committee chairman Carol Williams suggested the change. “We are hoping we’ll have those who regularly golf with us, but additionally welcome the many visitors who are back in town for class and family reunions during Oil Heritage Festival,” she said.
