As the seasons change in Venango County, so do the ways people gather, explore, and reconnect with the outdoors. For many, Two Mile Run County Park has long served as a place to do just that. Often referred to as “Venango’s backyard,” it is more than a destination. It is a shared space that brings people together.
The 2,700 acres park offers year-round recreation, from hiking and biking to fishing, boating, and camping. Whether for a quiet walk or a weekend stay, generations of families have made Two Mile part of their traditions.
Beyond its natural beauty, the park serves as a regional gathering place. Events throughout the year draw visitors from across Pennsylvania and beyond, introducing new audiences to Venango County. From outdoor workshops and trainings to seasonal events and fundraisers, the variety reflects both its versatility and reach.
“People are often surprised by what we have here,” said Director Kara Kauffman. “We recently hosted a statewide search and rescue training, and many participants had no idea a county park could be this large or beautiful. It’s rewarding to share what this space offers.”
The park community recently experienced a profound loss with the passing of longtime director Luke Kauffman. In the months since, his wife Kara has stepped into the role, bringing years of hands-on experience at the park, a background in biology and education, and a long connection to its daily operations. Having served as beach manager and worked alongside Luke in many capacities, she continues to guide the park with a steady understanding of both its history and its future.
That future includes expanding awareness of amenities many may not realize are available, from pavilion rentals and camping options to rental houses. It also includes new initiatives such as a “Luke-a-palooza” event, which will support Luke’s memorial fund and help advance his dream projects like the renovation and expansion of the park office.
At its core, Two Mile Run is a place where people come together, where visitors become regulars, and where the outdoors creates connection.
This season, consider spending time at Two Mile Run County Park or exploring one of Venango County’s many natural spaces. Attend an event, explore a trail, or simply enjoy the surroundings. Support the efforts that keep these places thriving.
