A Natural Transition: Welcoming Jonathan Bailey as the New UPMC Northwest President

By Susan Williams, President of the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce

As President of the Venango Area Chamber of Commerce, I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside many leaders in our region, and I’m especially encouraged by the recent appointment of Jonathan Bailey as president of UPMC Northwest, effective June 1.

Jonathan’s name is familiar to many of us, not just because of his role as vice president of operations since 2022, but because of the thoughtful, steady presence he’s brought to our community since joining UPMC Northwest. I recently had the chance to sit down with him and learn more about the path that led him here — and it’s clear that his leadership is both earned and intentional.

Jonathan shared that throughout his career with UPMC — which began in 1999 — he has always looked for ways to take on more responsibility and step into leadership roles when the opportunity arose. His experience as Director of Imaging at UPMC Jameson and Horizon allowed him to work closely with his predecessor, Brian Durniok. So when the opportunity came to join Brian at UPMC Northwest, the move felt like a natural progression.

What stood out most in our conversation was Jonathan’s deep appreciation for the culture at Northwest — one that values planning for the future and growing from within. He spoke about the importance of building strong relationships, not just within the hospital but throughout the community, and how those relationships have helped him thrive. Just as importantly, he is committed to creating those same opportunities for others.

Jonathan Bailey’s transition into this role is not just a change in title — it’s a continuation of a vision for UPMC Northwest that values collaboration, innovation, and community. I’m confident his leadership will be a strong asset to both the hospital and our region.

Congratulations, Jonathan!
